Favorite Bible Verse: Psalm 150
“Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” (v. 3-6)
Nick Werner provides beautiful organ and keyboard music during worship services and other events at First Church, and accompanies the children’s, youth and adult choirs when they perform.
Nick joined the staff of First Church in November 2012.
Nick has a strong background in the Christian faith. “I don’t remember a specific time when I felt called to serve Christ,” Nick said. “It was just always part of my life. My parents always took me to church, and they sang in the choir.”
The talented musician brings to First Church 14 years of experience in playing the piano, and eight years of experience with the organ. Nick completed formal training at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, but was a self-taught musician until then. “I began teaching myself the keyboard as a young child, and got serious about it at the age of 12,” Nick said. “I would get hold of whatever music I could, then practice and learn it.”
Formerly, Nick was the music director and organist for Highspire United Methodist Church. Previous to that, he served as the choir accompanist and organist at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in East Islip, NY; musical director and organist at Light Street Presbyterian Church in Baltimore; and as a guest organist and choir director for St. James Episcopal Church in Parkton, Maryland.
Nick shares his musical talent as a volunteer with several community theaters and arts groups. He served as musical director for recent productions including A Chorus Line and The Rocky Horror Show with York Little Theatre, Godspell and The Goodbye Girl at Oyster Mill Playhouse in Camp Hill, Meet Me in St. Louis at the Fishing Creek Playhouse in Etters, and Songs for a New World with Hershey Area Playhouse.
Nick also has served as a keyboardist and accompanist for numerous concerts and shows put on by groups including the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Ephrata Performing Arts Center, and Allenberry Playhouse.
A talented stage performer, Nick has appeared in many roles to include John the Baptist and Judas in the Oyster Mill Playhouse production of Godspell, and Dr. Lyman Hall in 1776 at Fishing Creek Playhouse.
