Roger Walton, Facilities Manager
Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Roger Walton joined the First Church staff as Facilities Manager in August 2011. In this position, Roger oversees the maintenance of our building and four rental properties owned by the church.
Roger is retired from the Department of the Navy, having served for 35 years, primarily in Comptroller organizations. At the time of his retirement, Roger was the Director of the General Funds Accounting and Policy Branch for the Naval Supply Systems Command.
Roger has been a faithful servant of Christ since childhood. “I don’t remember a specific moment when I felt the call to serve Christ,” said Roger. “My parents were active in many church roles. I saw the importance they placed on faithfully serving Christ in that way, so it was a very natural thing for me to get involved in church life as an adult.”
Roger has been an active member of First Church since 1996. Currently, he leads the Sound/Media Team. He has been a member of the Sounds of Worship choir since its inception. He also manages and plays for First Church’s slow pitch softball team.
Previously, Roger served on the Board of Trustees for six years, including four years as the chairperson. He also has served on the Finance, Stewardship, and Endowment Committees. Roger has attended four mission trips across the United States with the Youth Department. He also has volunteered at Mission Central, and the Central PA Food Bank through First Church.
In the community, Roger volunteered as a youth soccer and baseball coach in Mechanicsburg for many years, and served on the Boards of Directors for both the Mechanicsburg Soccer Club and the Mechanicsburg Little League Association.
Roger is a graduate of Ridley High School in Folsom, PA, and the University of Maine in Orono, ME, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in speech communications.
Roger and his wife, Sandy, have been married for 30 years. They are the parents of two adult sons.
