Sunday Worship

We’d love to see you this weekend!

Join Us at 8:30 or 11 a.m.

Sundays are a great time to experience First Church! Our 8:30 a.m. Foundation Service celebrates the Lord with traditional expressions of worship. The Foundation Service features hymns and gospel songs led by the organ or piano, recitation of prayers and creeds, and musical anthems led by our choir or special musicians. This service takes place in-person in our sanctuary and is livestreamed and recorded.

The Gathering Service starts at 11 a.m. and has a more modern, casual feel. This service offers contemporary worship led by our worship band and a very family-friendly atmosphere. Currently, the Gathering Service is in-person only and takes place in the green chair section of the sanctuary.

Both services include a biblically-rooted message from one of our pastors, child care, Kid Worship and Wee Worship (except during the summer) and monthly opportunities for communion.

We also host Rejoicing Spirits on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4 p.m. This special “shush-free” worship service is designed for individuals of all ages and abilities. We welcome everyone to join in this interactive and inclusive service!

Whatever service you pick, we’re excited to see you on Sunday!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

You can find us at 135 West Simpson St. in Mechanicsburg.

How early should I arrive for worship?

We recommend arriving 10 minutes before the service starts. That will give you time to park and find a seat in the sanctuary. Greeters and ushers will be located at all entrances and around the building. Anyone with a First Church name tag will be happy to help you!

What can I expect when I arrive?

We have greeters stationed at all of our entrances to welcome you to First Church and direct you to the sanctuary. When you get to the sanctuary, a volunteer will greet you at our check-in station. If it’s your first time, they’ll ask for your name and if you’d like to share any contact information with us. After that, pick up a bulletin and make your way into the sanctuary (ushers can help you find a seat).

If you need help, you can always ask anyone with a First Church name tag!

What is parking like?

We have ample parking (including several handicap accessible spots) in the lot right outside our building. You can enter the lot on High Street. If there’s no parking available in our lot, you can park along the Simpson, High, Frederick, or Keller Street.

What should I wear?

We don’t have a dress code and encourage you to come to worship as you are! However, if you want to dress similar to others, our 8:30 a.m. foundation service tends to be a bit more formal. You’ll see lots of button-up shirts, ties, dress pants, blouses, skirts, and dresses at this service. Most people dress casually for our 11 a.m. service, so feel free to wear your jeans and sneakers.

What about my kids?

Discipling the next generation is a big deal, and children are an important part of our worship community! Kids are always welcome to attend our worship services, however, many parents find that their children benefit from our age-specific programming offered during our 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services.

We offer child care for newborns through 3-year-olds at both of our services. Additionally, we offer Wee Worship beginning at age 3 and Kid Worship for 5-year-olds through fifth graders. Each week at Wee Worship and Kid Worship, kids have a Bible lesson, sing songs, make crafts and build relationships with other kids.

Check out our Children’s Ministries and Youth Ministry pages to learn more about the opportunities we offer for them at First Church.

Do you offer Sunday School?

Yes! If you’re looking for learning and relationship-building while you’re at church for worship, check out one of our Sunday School classes. Groups meet between services from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There are several groups to choose from, and newcomers can jump in anytime. Check out our current list of adult Sunday School classes here.

During the Sunday School hour, we also offer child care for newborns through 3-year-olds in our children’s wing. Kids in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to Cafe 21:12, a casual hangout with snacks and games in the youth lounge.

What about disabilities?

Everyone is welcome to join us for Sunday morning worship. We work hard to make our facilities and our services accessible for all.

In addition to our Sunday morning services, we offer a Rejoicing Spirits service on the fourth Sunday of every month at 4 p.m. This “shush-free” service is specially designed for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers and families, and celebrates all expressions of worship. Rejoicing Spirits includes music, prayer, scripture reading and a message.

Do you livestream or record your services?

Currently, we livestream our 8:30 a.m. Foundation Service on Facebook and YouTube every Sunday. You can watch past sermons here.
