Join us at Mission Central on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. to help sort and bag donated groceries. The groceries are then transported to the Bethesda Mission shelter in Harrisburg to be shared with residents in need.

Mission Central, a warehouse and affiliate of the Susquehanna Conference of The United Methodist Church, collects and distributes relief supplies and humanitarian aid locally, nationally and internationally as needed in response to natural disasters and other crises.

First Church members volunteer at Mission Central the third Wednesday evening of every month to prepare the groceries.

For more information or to volunteer, call the church office at (717) 766-4611.

Did you know that First Church offers a library? It’s packed with a variety of Christian-themed books, both fiction and non-fiction, including works from some of today’s most popular authors. All are welcome to stop by and browse our shelves for some exciting summer reading.

Here’s what new:
In The Love Letter, Rachel Hauck’s latest book, actress Chloe Dashle accepts the lead role in an epic love story set during the Revolutionary War. The story is centered on a love letter Hamilton Lightfoot writes to Esther Longfellow on the night of a major battle in South Carolina. Hamilton is a patriot, and Esther’s father is a staunch loyalist who vows his daughter will never marry a “rebel.” Meanwhile, Jesse Gates isn’t looking for anything beyond an actress to bring his script to life, but when he and Chloe begin to work together, chemistry and fireworks begin to crackle. Can either romance survive?

Justice Betrayed, the third book in the Memphis Cold Case mystery series by Patricia Bradley, has arrived. When Rachel Sloane, a cold case investigator, discovers a photo of her mother with four Elvis impersonators—two of which have been murdered – she decides there are some new leads to be followed in this unsolved murder case.

First Church always has a volunteer on hand to help you find just the right book! For more information, call or e-mail the church at (717) 766-4611 or office@fumchurch.com.

Attention all lawn and garden enthusiasts! First Church invites you to share your extra flowers, fruits and vegetables with others. Bring them to the church (see display by coffee prep area) any time this summer. Also, help yourself to garden goodies. Bags are available by the display.

God’s mission of salvation in the world is also our mission, and as we pray and work to advance his kingdom, God calls us to proclaim the good news to our family, friends, co-workers and neighbors around the world in a way that brings hope and invites commitment to Christ. Join us as we study together ‘Gospel Shaped Outreach’ during the Sunday School hour starting July 1 in the multipurpose room, at 9:30 a.m.

We look forward to this lesson series that will give us a deep appreciation for the gospel in a manner that we will be excited to share! Along the way, we will hear from several mission workers that First Church supports. They will be our guest teachers on this journey and will share a lesson that includes thoughts from their own personal experiences in their mission field.

Our first guest speaker is Jenna Mengle from Cru on July 8. Jenna recently returned from mission work in Montenegro and will share the message “Who is Jesus?” Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a First Church missionary!

On July 22, we will hear from Matt and LeeAnn Herring from Cru as they teach the lesson, “Who are we reaching?” Matt and LeeAnn serve as Cru staff in West Chester, PA and are currently reaching out to students along route 202 in PA at West Chester, Eastern, Cheyney, and Villanova University.

Our next guest teacher, Josh Herring, will be presenting on August 12, “How do we share it?”  Josh is currently involved in an internship in State College with DiscipleMakers, a campus ministry that he connected with while attending Lebanon Valley College.  We will also hear from Graham Bowen from Cru on August 19, followed by Jenna Mengle on August 26.  Don’t miss these opportunities to hear from our young adults as they share with us how to proclaim the good news!
