Bible Sunday

In response to one of our core values of discerning God’s will through reading the Holy Word, Bibles will be presented to 4 year olds, second, sixth, and ninth grade students at both 8:15 and 10:45 worship services. Parents will be invited to present the Bibles to their children, as we encourage a lifelong adventure in Bible reading and study.

Rejoicing Spirits Worship Service

First Church will hold a Rejoicing Spirits worship service on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m. All are welcome! The service is specially designed and adapted for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families. An informal atmosphere, brief messages, and lots of music and fellowship opportunities. Rejoicing Spirits services are held on the fourth Sunday of each month.

MOPS Group

Raising children is both beautiful and challenging, and having a network of other moms to lean on is a life-giving part of God’s plan! That’s why Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) connects moms to a community of women who meet to laugh, support and embrace the journey together. World Communion Sunday: October 1

First Church will participate in World Communion Sunday on Oct. 1 during both the 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services. Celebrated the first Sunday in October, World Communion Sunday is a day to celebrate our oneness in Christ, the Prince of Peace, in the midst of the world we are called to serve – a world evermore in need of peacemaking. First Church welcomes knitters, crocheters and crafters of all types for the new Knit@Nite fellowship group. The group meets on the third Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the newly renovated Tower Meeting Room (former Children’s Library), Room 216D. Food Trucks

Harrisburg Food Truck Feasts will roll into the First Church parking lot on Friday, Oct. 20 for the last time this year. The trucks will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. An expected six to eight trucks will be pulling into the church parking lot to sell everything from Greek food to chicken tenders and tacos. In addition to good food, the event offers a fun time to meet and socialize with other community members.

Chicken Barbecue to Benefit Bell Choirs

The First Church Bell Choirs will host a chicken barbecue fund raiser on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Each meal includes a ½ chicken, baked potato, applesauce and roll for $9. Drinks and desserts will be sold separately. Proceeds benefit trips the Bell Choirs take to workshops and festivals.

Children’s Sabbath

First Church will observe the annual Children’s Sabbath on Sunday, Oct. 22 during the 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services. This year’s theme is, “Moving Forward With Hope.” The United Methodist Church designates a Children’s Sabbath each October. The national observance encourages congregations to renew and live out their moral responsibility to care, protect and advocate for all children. All are welcome to attend!

All Saints Sunday

First Church will celebrate All Saints Day on Sunday, Nov. 5 at our 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services. Celebrated annually, All Saints Day allows us to remember the glory of God in the saints who have gone before us. We use the New Testament definition of saints meaning, “all Christian people of every time and place.” Time will be set aside during both services to call out the names of those church members lost in the past year. Operation Christmas Child Boxes Due

First Church is collecting boxes of personal care items for this year’s Operation Christmas Child. Through this ministry, the public is invited to fill one or more shoe-sized boxes with toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.), toys and games, school supplies, and gum or hard candies. UMW Mission Meal to Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

The United Methodist Women (UMW) of First Church will hold a Mission Meal on Sunday, Nov. 19, in fellowship hall following the 10:45 a.m. service. Join us for a delicious meal of barbecue, chips, veggies/dip, and dessert. Take out is available. Freewill offerings will be accepted.
