Bad habits

without comments

When I saw that Mike and Lucretia were going to do an entire sermon series on grace, I was skeptical. How can they talk about that one subject for more than a couple weeks?

If you’ve heard more than a couple sermons in the series (and if you haven’t, you can hear what you missed here!), you know that there’s plenty to talk about. And to think about. And to pray about.

I thought I knew what there was to know about grace, but having to explore it more deeply week after week has forced me to realize that I have some bad habits. In my pursuit of truth and justice, I sometimes prefer to hold onto my own perceived righteousness and deny forgiveness to those I consider evildoers. Is it possible that this doesn’t only not teach them a lesson, but that it harms me as well?

What makes my situation even more unfortunate is that these offenses are not even that serious. Certainly nothing worth mentioning here. I probably don’t even remember most of them after a couple weeks. In fact, I may even seek out some opportunities to take offense!

When I cling to non-grace, I separate myself from Christ. It’s as simple as that. No matter how many times I read the story of the speck and the log, it seems I still don’t get it.

Thankfully, God is better at exercising grace than I.
