What Rulebook Do I Follow?

with 2 comments

I remember a story that I heard of a woman who every Sunday made critical remarks about her pastor’s sermon or the service in general. One Sunday, on her way out of church, she shook hands with the pastor and said, “Pastor, what a great service this morning. During your sermon I had an epiphany. I want to thank you.” The pastor, quite pleased with the morning’s performance smiled at her and asked, “and what was it that left this impression on you?”, assuming it was some part of the sermon.

The woman smiled back and replied, “Oh, it had nothing to do with your sermon. I lost interest in that about half way through. So, I picked up the pew Bible and, leafing through, I found a verse that really spoke to me.”
“That’s wonderful,” the pastor responded. And the woman glided out into the sunshine.

What Does *Your* Sunday Look Like?

without comments

Everyone who attends our church has a different story. Soon, you may have the opportunity to share yours.

Beginning this week with special guest columnist Matt Holliday, we’re going to share those stories. Do you attend Sunday School? Which one? What did you talk about in class? Which church service did you attend? What happened there from your point of view?

Writers are invited to talk about other activities in which they’re involved at church. Many people who visit our web page have never been to our church; this is your opportunity to reach out to them. It’s also a chance to tell new members about church opportunities and organizations they’ve not yet learned about.

Once he finishes the inaugural “Sunday Reflections” column, Matt will choose who writes next week’s column. Then that person will choose the next writer. And we’ll go from there.

Writers are encouraged to bring their cameras to church, and can share the pictures they take here at the Community Site.
