First Church will celebrate DisAbility Awareness Sunday on April 24. Both morning worship services will be dedicated to empowering people with disabilities and raising awareness about the disability community.
Dr. Douglas Curry, a Worship Ministries Pastor and faculty member at Messiah University, will share the morning message. Dr. Curry speaks from personal experience as the parent of a child with special needs.
Many families with a member who is differently abled want to belong to a faith community, but sadly may not feel welcome. As our congregations continue to age, more church members will likely experience some form of disability during their lifetime.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 61 million adults in the United States live with a disability. The CDC also states that one out of four adults in the United States have some type of disability. Any person can become disabled at any point in his or her life.
All are welcome! You do not have to be a member of First Church or of any church to attend. Worship services are held at 8:30 (traditional) and 11:00 (mix of contemporary and traditional). The 8:30 service is additionally available via livestream, and the recorded service can be viewed through our website any time after the service.
